I turned thirty-one last Monday and I am glad to say I got formally engaged the same night too.
As you already know if you read this blog on a regular basis,
I am currently living in Bucharest for professional reasons, which means this year
my usual extravagant party was replaced by an apparently nothing-out-of-the-ordinary dinner with The Gentle One.
Or so I thought.
Actually, he had subtly insisted on having an intimate dinner (just the two of us)
but I am SO tired lately, I am barely able to catch any fishy movement from other people right now. I think he was counting on it
(what a master of plot!) because he booked for my favourite restaurant, encoraged me to get ready on time and,
without any stress, he drove me there.
We ordered my favourite salmon dish and some red wine (I swear he was so relaxed I did not have a chance to guess what was happening at that point) and after some small talk,
he gave me my birthday presents.
I opened a packet containing a lovely teaware set and when I was examining it closer,
I noticed there was something inside one of the cups.
"There is something inside this one" I observed naively.
"You should get it then" he nodded.
I carefully shook the cup to make the misterious object to slide into my palm and then I felt the velveteen surface of a jewel box.
Although I don´t like public affectional or emotional displays, I was already crying
when I opened the little container and before I saw the lovely opalescent black gem shining. Thanks God there were no indiscreet costumers around at the moment
(yes, The Gentle One had chosen the most lonely hour on purpose, I told you
he revealed himself a master of plot) to witness all the crying.
And kids, this is the story of how we went engaged.
We will be getting married next Autumn.
Just after our first decade together ♥
